Serving Locally and Serving Across the World
Over the past 10 years, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) firefighters have donated their time and money to help Medical Teams International provide assistance in countries around the world.
To date, more than 40 TVF&R firefighters have responded to countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Japan, Uganda and the Philippines. In Vietnam and Sri Lanka, teams of TVF&R firefighters assisted in the creation of regional and nationalized emergency medical services systems, which remain in place today. In Cambodia, their teams were tasked with providing first responder refresher courses for hospitals throughout the country. Most recently, 14 TVF&R firefighters have helped with relief efforts in response to Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. In total, TVF&R firefighters have provided more than 5,855 hours of training and assistance worldwide.
Each TVF&R firefighter funds their trip from their own “out-of-pocket” funds. These caring individuals pay on average $2,000 out-of-pocket and take time-off from their jobs and time away from their families to help others in need across the world.
To continue to provide this dedicated level of care and professionalism these teams need your help. Medical Teams International asks for your donation to assist in funding these teams of firefighters. Your donation will not only assist in the development of programs in East Asia that are locally “owned” and sustainable in the long term, but provides first responders in your community with valuable life experiences.
